Episode 5 of The Traitors exemplifies that The Traitors is an individual game played with two teams. Nobody knows that more than the traitors themselves. Today Watchers Delight gives the scoop on all things from the traitors team in episode 5.
SPOILER WARNING!!! PLEASE WATCH ALL OF EPISODE 5 BEFORE READING!!! BLOG IS NOT CHRONOLOGICAL WITH THE EPISODE!!!
Episode 5 was so odd for the traitors and where they are in the game. On paper, Robyn made sense to murder, then faithfuls voted out Nikki and the other main suspect is Ciara, another faithful. Usually this gives the traitors at least another episode of safety and the upper hand. Not this time. Our traitors are in a spin of distrust, paranoia, and greed. Turning them against each other even though working together is best for all of them
Danielle-
Danielle’s gameplay has changed dramatically since the Bob the Drag Queen vote. Danielle’s new goal for the game is to be the reason Boston Rob goes home and throughout the episode we see she is doing anything to make that happen. She tries gauging where Carolyn’s head is at on targeting Rob. Carolyn played the middle pretty well but Danielle just felt like Carolyn would be in Rob's pocket no matter what and has a confessional where she says she’s going after Carolyn. This is just not good. Her plan here is to just gut her team and rebuild by herself. In episode 5. Regardless, Carolyn has been wanting power all season. If Danielle just let her call the shots a couple of times, she would get Carolyn’s trust and possibly make Rob mad during the process.
This unfolding from the Bob the Drag Queen vote gets even worse. During the mission Danielle gets a riddle correct, granting her a shield, and she gives it to Dolores instead of keeping it and takes off Derricks face when she could have taken Tom off. Everyone clocked this as sus behavior and then, she does it again. She gets a riddle correct, then gives up her chance at a shield, putting Derrick back up on the wall. Delores calls her out and this really shows how bad a move this was. The person you just tried to help is now calling you out in front of everyone. As the audience we just have to ask, why did Danielle do this? I think she was just blinded by her pursuit of Boston Rob. This move makes sense if your only goal is to gain numbers for an upcoming vote. Either way, it does blow up her spot but she does a great job of playing it off as no one brings up Danielle at the roundtable.
Before the roundtable, however, Danielle wants to start planting seeds to eventually vote for Carolyn. Her reasoning is that no one is targeting her and that because she is too ditzy she would be the perfect traitor. While she’s not entirely wrong, the faithful’s this season have been really good at presenting arguments against people and just saying they would be the perfect traitor without any backup isn’t going to do enough.
Danielle does miss catching any votes at the roundtable, but after, Dylan leaks to Carolyn that Danielle is throwing her name out. Leading us to our traitors plot for episode 6
Boston Rob-
Throughout episode 5, Boston Rob is playing a game of blend in and running from the way he went after Bob the Drag Queen. The first way was to murder Robyn. This makes Dylan closer to Rob out of necessity and takes out a good faithful. After breakfast, Lord Ivar confronts Boston Rob about Wes saying “there’s only one way to know someone is 100% a traitor.” Rob defends himself well and Lord Ivar seems to believe him and that he doesn’t trust Wes.
During the mission Robs is trying to lay low, no need to even try to answer a question. He doesn’t need a shield and he doesn’t need eyes on him. Knowing this Rob seemed to continue to lay low, not naming anyone new and kind of just putting more into the Nikki and Ciara debate, leaning more toward voting out Ciara. He also made sure that Carolyn still had trust in him and kept telling her,”100% us two in the end.” Even though Carolyn doesn’t trust this at the moment, after her conversation with Dylan she might have a change of heart.
The roundtable started with Lord Ivar outing the three top names during the day; Nikki, Ciara, and Rob. He then gives the floor, almost like he wanted to give Rob the opportunity to defend himself in front of everyone, more than accuse Rob of anything. Rob defends himself well enough again, but mostly gets saved by the main argument between Nikki and Ciara. Nikki just couldn’t defend herself against everyone and was voted out, with all traitors voting for her to go. Showing that the traitors, especially Rob, didn't have much influence in this vote.
In episode 6 Rob is going to have to battle running from the episode 4 vote, Danielle, and being a traitor, but could get Carolyn back as a result of Danielle’s betrayal.
Carolyn-
Carolyn had the best position out of any of the traitors heading into the episode and leaves with a huge decision to make next week. After the Bob the Drag Queen vote, Carolyn found herself between Rob and Danielle. Both needing her as a number to eventually get the other out.
During breakfast, we hear Dylan is suspicious of Carolyn. Telling this to Danielle I think is what sent Danielle to think she should cut Carolyn first. Dylan however, never really calls out Carolyn or mentions it again. I feel Dylan used this as a trap for Danielle. Considering he held onto it all day and watched Danielle run with a narrative he put out, like Bob the Drag Queen did. Then, he went and told Carolyn everything Danielle is doing.
Carolyn is one vote away from being a very powerful traitor and I’m sure her target will end up landing on Danielle. Carolyn will end this episode and start episode 6 as the traitor in the best position in the game. She doesn’t have a lot of sus on her but enough that it’s not suspicious, and everybody is writing her off as crazy in this game.
Final Thoughts-
The traitors should be in a good spot. They just cannot get on the same page and don’t trust each other for it. I expect Boston Rob to keep trying to get Carolyn back and gain her trust. If that happens I think Danielle is in big trouble if she doesn’t change course. In the sneak peak we see Carolyn call out Danielle and Boston Rob. This will give Danielle a chance to course correct from here, but the trust will never really be there. One thing I’m hoping we see in the future is a Dylan recruitment from the traitors. If Dylan joins after Danielle is voted out, he will see that he has been in the middle of traitors turning on each other, and would add a wrinkle to his game.
